About the firm

Small on purpose.

METRIA is a small advisory by design. Keeping the in-house team small lets us get to know your organization properly — and the specialist network behind it lets us still cover the ground.

Our story

We help organizations green up, and prove it.

Since 2018, we have been helping organizations and teams become more ethical and more responsible towards everyone with a stake in them — employees, customers, neighbors, regulators, lenders.

The firm was founded out of risk consulting rather than environmental science, and that origin still shapes our approach. A sustainability obligation is a liability with a date on it: it can be quantified, reduced, and some of it can be transferred. We treat it that way.

The work covers the full arc of a green-up effort: assessing footprint on issues like climate change, human rights, governance and social wellbeing, then managing it. We conduct our assessments in compliance with the GRI Standards, which turn good intentions into social, environmental, and economic benefit rooted in the public interest and built from genuine multi-stakeholder input.

We also handle the adjacent things clients keep needing and cannot easily buy separately: compliance inspections, international certifications, energy audits, and the communications that carry the result to an audience.

Let us make sure you do not conduct business as usual. The point of the exercise

How we work

Five things worth knowing before you contact us.

  • Impact first. We take on projects where we believe we can create a meaningful change, at whatever scale that requires — strategy, policy, research, services, systems, or a single touchpoint.
  • Mission fit. We work with organizations whose mission we believe in, or with groups we think could achieve a real course correction through the work.
  • Both timeframes. Some engagements solve an immediate need. Others are about anticipating what your sector will be asked for in five years.
  • Leadership access. Strategy development and execution only work when we are in the room with the people who can authorize change.
  • Rough to advanced. We can start from an early framework and take it through to a delivered roadmap, rather than requiring you to arrive with a brief.

Capabilities

What we can be asked to do.

Research, project design and delivery across every part of a sustainability program — plus the parts most advisory firms hand off.

Research Evidence and analysis

Materiality studies, unique survey design, quantitative research techniques, benchmarking between projects and against peers.

Strategy Plans that get executed

Work with leadership teams and senior decision makers on developing strategy and then actually landing it inside the organization.

Learning Workshops and lectures

Customized sessions that build internal capability, using storytelling, imagery, video, and games where they work better than slides.

Delivery Digital communication

Full digital delivery of the finished work, including web and social, so the report does not stop at a PDF nobody opens.

Our team

The people you will actually work with.

If you do not see a particular field or sector represented below, that is by design rather than by accident. When an engagement calls for it, we introduce specialists from an industry-specific network of consultants with considerable breadth and depth.

Keeping the in-house team small is what keeps the relationship close: we take the time to understand you and your organization, then hand-pick the right people to work alongside you.

Managing Partner

Goga Jakhia

Goga founded METRIA in 2018 after more than a decade in risk and insurance in Canada. It is an unusual route into sustainability consulting, and it shapes how the firm works: questions arrive here as risk questions — what is the exposure, what would it cost, and which part of it is worth acting on. He spent four years as a senior underwriter at Rand & Fowler Insurance in Vancouver, advising small and medium enterprises on tailored risk management programs, then five years as partner and risk advisor at Umbrella Consulting. He holds the Accredited Advisor in Risk Management and Insurance designation from the American Institute for CPCU, a Master of Liberal Arts in Sustainability and Environmental Management from Harvard University, completed on campus in 2016, and a first degree in international affairs and international law from Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University. Since 2021 he has also been CEO and partner at Next Energy, developing utility-scale solar and wind generation in Georgia — work that keeps METRIA's advice grounded in what permitting and financing an energy project here actually involves. He is fluent in Georgian, English, Russian, and Megrelian.

Partner

Yana Kosukhina

Yana has extensive experience in the food and beverage industry, working for industry leaders as a quality manager: drafting and implementing food safety systems to ISO 22000, establishing and running new quality management units, monitoring quality standards across suppliers' value chains, and preparing quality compliance reports. Her earlier work covered investigating discrepancies against technology standards, analyzing reclamations, recruiting quality control personnel, budgeting the department, representing the company in quality and safety management systems, and running the internal quality service. She has drafted, implemented, and certified a range of safety and quality systems. Yana holds a graduate degree in sanitary standards for animal products, specializing in animal food processing technologies, from Kharkiv State Zoo-veterinary Academy, and an undergraduate degree with honors in milk production technologies from Kharkiv Milk Production College. She was awarded an internal auditor qualification for quality management systems under ISO 9000:2000 and ISO 19011 in Kyiv. She speaks fluent Russian and Ukrainian, intermediate English, and some Georgian.

Who we work with

Corporations, funds, government, and NGOs.

We work with corporations, not-for-profits, consulting firms, startups and public bodies to produce a result that holds up outside the organization that commissioned it. We are always interested in new markets and new contexts for the work.

Why we keep our own projects running

Thinking has to be kept fresh.

We run our own side projects deliberately: to push at the conceptual edges of the work, to test things before we recommend them to a client, and because the field is changing faster than any single engagement reveals.

The world is facing challenges of a type and complexity not previously encountered. Part of our job is helping organizations reframe what they think their current options are, by looking honestly at which futures are actually available.
